Arty movies I want to see
Daywatch
This probably only qualifies as arty because it's Russian. Nonetheless I forgot it on my last list, so arty it is. Nightwatch was great. It was fun in the very best sense. More like Indiana Jones fun than Pirates fun. I still think about that owl girl. And I'm excited to see where they go next.
Waitress
I'm a bit skeptical of this due to Keri Russell being about annoying in the previews, but the reviews are so good. And I love Nathan Fillion. And I'm interested in gender and service work. And movies about women's friendships. And movies made by women.
Lights in the Dusk
I barely remember The Man Without a Past, other than I saw it at the Music Box and the fact that I LOVED it. One of those movies I would probably buy if I found it on an endcap at the store even though I don't remember it. Aki Kaurismaki is a genius. Such pretty films. So sad.
Once
Again, the reviews are great and I secretly love musicals.
Away from Her
I think I'll have trouble with this one, especially since I just watched Iris and more or less wept through it. My grandma didn't have Alzheimer's but it's still too close to home for related reasons. Nonetheless I'm a huge Alice Munro fan, I'm intrigued by the marital problems the movie is really about, and again, the movies made by women thing.
